37 dgreez was established in 2003 . the kwaito gruop from Durban was formed by Sfundo Zama and Sicelo mhlongo, the duo met when sfundo zama was a member of a hip hop dance group called spinners delight and Scelo Mhlongo was with a hip hop group called TSTS. they started with a plan to create a movement recruiting artists paying for recordings, one of the artist they recruited is now a well known kwaito artist uBhizer famous for the song called “gobisiqolo” . The name 37dgreez is taken from the standard human body temperature meaning the group will always be stable. the kwaito group’s journey has been a long and hard if you consider that they use to travel from south coast to durban to attend events and beg for performances of which they used to end up sleeping on the sidewalk in durban. The group has done a lot of community and charity work under a youth organisation called mayibuye where both have set as Chairperson and Secretary respectively.
Their music is greatly influenced by the kwaito legends including the game changers from Durban behind the so called durban kwaito music. they believe to have found their own sound combining deep house music with hardcore kwaito lyrics. They have no specific target market stating that their aim is to globalize kwaito music by making music that attract even a person who is not interested in kwaito music. currently working on their second kwaito EP album which will be called “kwaito never dies” their first single on the album is called “obaba” which is receiving good feedback from their fans and followers.
